A Webinar with Eclipse Effect Entertainment: You had to Postpone your Wedding, What Next?
The decision to postpone your wedding was no doubt an extremely difficult and emotional one. Now, you’re not sure exactly what to think, do, feel or think!?
Our team had the pleasure of sitting down with Jase from Eclipse Effect Entertainment, a DJ and entertainment company on Hawaii island, for a live webinar to discuss just that. We touched on the extreme ebbs and flows of emotions that everyone, both vendors, couples and family members are experiencing during this difficult time.
This article will sum up the next steps we recommended in the webinar to moving forward after making the big decision to postpone your wedding:
Self Check
This is the first step to moving forward after your decision to postpone. Take a pause and ask yourself: Am I OKAY? Let the reality of what is happening settle. Give yourself a break, take your time, distract yourself, and process your feelings.
Get the Rescheduling Process Underway
Make sure you have a handle on your emotions and are in the right mindset before you get to rescheduling. Make sure you have at least 5 new dates picked out before reaching out to your venue and vendors to reschedule. In the interview, Bride, Julie Arii mentioned that her venue even prompted her with some new dates to make the decision process easier.
If you have a coordinator they will be your best friend through the postponement and rescheduling process. Our team has tried to relieve most of the work from our clients by reaching out to vendors on their behalf to organize the rescheduling for their special day.
Pro Tip: Don’t forget to address any new logistics that may need to be changed about your wedding day because of the new date. For example, sunset time! ABC’s Co-owner, Operations Manager, and Lead Coordinator Natalie Christensen also encourage couples to obtain new written agreements from your venue and all your vendors to avoid any miscommunications regarding the changes.
Inform your Guests ASAP!
Once all the necessary arrangements have been made and your new date is set you need to inform all your people ASAP! This means both picking up the phone and sending out an email to let everyone know you have postponed your wedding. The sooner you can get the information out the better so everyone can add it to their calendars and make any arrangements well in advance. Also, be sure to update your wedding website with the postponement notice and ALL the new details.
A wedding website will be an extremely helpful tool during this time! Send your guests to the website to answer any questions they may have regarding your new details. Check out our blog on Wedding Websites Here.
Finally, this can be the fun part — send out a “save the new date”, “change the date”, “postponed”, “new plan”, etc…. cards! Remember how fun it was picking out your save the dates and invitation suit? Make the most of the situation and have some fun with it again!
Grieve
This is a Loss! After months of research, planning, organizing and finalizing the details for your wedding to suddenly have something so out of your control brings the happiest day of your life to a screeching halt. No doubt you are bummed! Your feelings are valid so let yourself feel them!
This is no easy time and your postponement decision was not easy to make (and likely was out of your control). We encourage you to reach out to any support system you have. This includes your wedding vendors who can most definitely empathize with you right now.
Stay Positive – There is Always a Silver Lining
We know finding the positives in this situation is extremely hard but we urge you to try!! One of the biggest positivities we see in the postponement is that this pandemic has gifted us time. I mean who gets to plan their wedding when they aren’t swamped at work or busy with 10000’s of other things at the same time!?
Think of this as time to wrap up any DIY projects (or maybe add some new ones), get your decor design EXACTLY how you envisioned, work to put a little extra money in the wedding fund and get those arms all toned up for your dress. This situation could actually be the opportunity you didn’t know you needed to perfect your special day. More time to prepare means less stress when the day finally comes!

Celebrate Your Original Date
You chose your original wedding date for a reason, it is special to you! We think it is important to still honor this day and make a positive memory for yourselves on the original wedding date. Have an extra special (at home) date night, get on a group video call with friends and family, spend the day looking at your plans to get excited about the new date or maybe even pop a special bottle of champagne. Whatever it may be we say do something for yourselves and celebrate it! You deserve it!
Remember, you’re still getting married!!
Okay, Let’s take a pause and remember that you are STILL getting married. You can’t forget that the most important part of all of this is promising to spend the rest of your life with your best friend. Your wedding may not be happening on the exact date you have been planning for but it WILL happen and this is something to get excited about!
Our hearts go out to all the couples who have had to either postpone or cancel their original wedding plans due to the pandemic. We urge you to take your time dealing with your emotions surrounding the change but know that those too will pass. There is always a silver lining and we hope that our Webinar with Eclipse Effect Entertainment has highlighted some points that can help you find the positives in the situation and aid in the process of moving forward.
