In the past, we have had fabulous mornings with the bride and her bridal party in regards to getting ready with hair and make-up. Mostly easy going, relaxed, and on schedule. However, there is a wedding that comes to our minds when we think, “Thank God we were there to help keep things on track!”
We had one wedding where the bride was so frustrated that she couldn’t relax while getting ready. The mother of the bride was holding things up. After getting her make-up done once, she decided that she was not satisfied with it. She removed all of it from her face and then demanded the make-up artist try again. Keep in mind, that this was holding up the line of ladies who still needed to get their hair and make-up done… and this included the bride!
The mother was so caught up in her own appearance that she was not focused on the most important one in the room, the bride! The bride ended up having to leave the room for some air and alone time while her mother was making things difficult for the make-up artist. During the second try, the mother of the bride even insisted the make-up artist use her own make-up and shadow palettes. And when the mother of the bride was still unhappy about her make-up, she began instructing the make-up artist to use certain colors and how to use them.
After taking up too much time, one of our coordinators had to step in and move the situation along. Although it was a little uncomfortable telling the mother of the bride what to do, it was necessary. From a non-bias, professional standpoint, it was a wise decision that had to be made. Luckily for the bride and the rest of her bridal party, no one had to take the situation into their own hands and potentially hurt feelings and get personally involved.
