As wedding planners, we often encounter unique family dynamics that require us to take preventative caution to avoid unwanted run-ins. Such things were true for one of our weddings a few months ago. The bride’s parents were divorced and the father remarried. Because of the tension left behind by the split the Mother of the Bride and the Step-Mom were not on cordial terms.
Throughout the planning process, as well as the day of, we did our best to make sure they were not needed at the same time. We avoided all forced interaction between them so that this mild family tension didn’t take away from the bride and groom’s wedding day. This is normal, and as wedding planners, it’s nice to know the family dynamics going into a new wedding so that we are able to make such arrangements to avoid any awkwardness.
Try as we may have to keep these two apart, we still found them together by themselves at the end of the night. Maybe it’s a testimony of true love and its the power to bring people together, but that’s what happened that night. Two people that were on edge with each other at the beginning of the day we’re kicking back, talking story, smoking cigars, and having a great time!
