As coordinators, on the wedding day we have to keep track of just about everything… the bride’s extra pair of comfortable shoes, the tissues to provide for the wedding party, and even some water for hydration on those hot days in the sun. It’s not often we have to remind individuals to watch their alcohol intake, as goes this wedding story of the case of the Asian glow.
Celebrations were happening all week, and even on the wedding day, laughter and excitement filled the air as everyone was getting ready. As the day drew on, beverages were being pulled out! The ladies of the bridal party chose a more modest and light drink and decided on mimosas as the beverage of choice. The gentlemen had different plans, however.
One of our coordinators had been checking up on the groomsmen periodically, but had left for a period of about 20 minutes to assist with set up. Upon her return, the gentlemen had out a large handle of whiskey, and were going shot for shot amongst the 7 of them!! Normally, we coordinators we don’t mind the presence of alcohol, it is, after all, a wonderful day to celebrate. However, by the time our coordinator returned, the men were 7 shots deep, EACH, and their lobster red complexions were the tell all. The Asian Glow had made it’s statement, and the ceremony was only a short 30 minutes away.
For the sake of the photographs (and composure for that matter!), our coordinator pleaded with the guys to put down the bottle until after the ceremony. After all, these photos are a beautiful remembrance of a special day, and we didn’t think the bride would’ve expected them to be graced by the smiling faces of 7 lobster-red groomsmen.
As we all held our breath at the ceremony, the bride processed down the aisle. We were waiting for a wide-eyed look of shock, maybe a little disappointment? But to our surprise, the bride burst out in giggles at the sight of him, and made a statement to ask all the guests to look at the groomsmen’s red faces and join her in a few laughs. She gave her now-husbands hand a squeeze as the “shame on you” gesture, but they both smiled and continued into their ceremony.
Their love and laughter over a situation like that was so memorable, and a funny story we like to share as an example for all other groomsmen looking to take a few too many drinks before their big debut. All in all, the night continued with more drinking and laughter, and we continue to look back on these memories fondly.
