Which Hawaiian Island Should you Get Married On!?
Every island in Hawaii offers something different and uniquely special! We truly believe there is an island for every couple, wedding style, and personality. So, in helping you decide which island is right for you
When choosing which of these islands is the best for your wedding you must first consider these key factors:
- How many guests are you expecting?
- What does your guest list look like? Is it adults only? Family-Friendly?
- What do you like to do!? Do you like adventure? Relaxed vibes? Resorts? Outdoor activities? Indoor activities?
- Are activities like shopping, nightlife, and a rich restaurant culture important to you!?
To start off let’s break down the islands for you…
Technically there are 137 islands in the Hawaiian Chain though only eight are typically recognized. Within these, there are four islands that are the most populated and popular for weddings: Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and Hawaii Island (Big Island).
Let’s cover the 4 main islands:
OAHU
“The gathering place.” Oahu is the most densely populated and lively of the islands. This island is one of the most visited islands among tourists because here you will find a combination of old Hawaiian culture, fast-paced city life, and a variety of outdoor activities and adventure. There’s a little bit of everything here! From beautiful beaches to breathtaking mountains to a solid infrastructure, with nightlife, resorts, restaurants, salons, shopping, and an infinite number of hotel options Oahu truly has it all.
This island is the Hawaii Wedding Industry Epicenter. Many vendors base themselves out of Oahu and are willing to travel to the different islands of Hawaii. Getting married on Oahu will give you the widest range of choices in vendors.
This is the island for you if you want a little bit of everything, city, night-life, shopping, beaches, resorts, big waves, tropical green mountains and FUN!
MAUI
Known for its well-renowned beaches. Maui is the second most populated island and second most popular visited island among tourists. If Oahu is a little too “city” or busy for the wedding vibes that you are hoping for, Maui is a perfect balance between city and country. This island is gorgeous and has a little bit of everything which has led it to become a hot spot for resorts and weddings. Like Oahu, it is possible and easier, to “get away” from the busy, tourist areas and really get lost in the beautiful nature of the island. Maui has a group of world-class vendors for your choosing.
This is the island for you if you a want a little bit of everything with a side of chill. In Maui it is possible to visit some of the most amazing, secluded beaches in the world, snorkel in the crystal clear waters AND still get in your designer shopping and hit the town at night (just a little more low-key)!
KAUAI
The Beautiful Garden Isle. Kauai is the least populated and quiet of the main islands. Its nature is absolutely breathtaking. From the world famous Kalalau mountains and Napali Coast, to its secluded beaches, this island has it all. We are talking nature, adventure, and a relaxed- Ohana vibe island wide. We recommend it for couples who want a little more of a low-key wedding, love nature, and love that feel. The vendors on Kauai have a very special close-knit Ohana feel between them!
This is the island for you if you want to switch the city feels for nature, adventure, with a laid-back, local vibe.
BIG ISLAND (HAWAII ISLAND)
On the Big Island you will find white sand beaches, lush green jungle, snowy mountain tops, active volcanoes, and fields of black lava rocks. Nature wise it literally has everything, so take your pick for your wedding location. This island is called the Big Island for a reason, it is MUCH bigger than the others. There is not as much infrastructure or resources easily available on Big Island and it is very spread out. This island and its vendors offer the quintessential Hawaiian cultural elements.
This is the island for you if you want to incorporate some authentic Hawaiian culture! If you want secluded, raw, nature, country, culture and that quintessential tropical trip to Hawaii then, the Big Island is where you want to be.
So, now that you know what the 4 main islands have to offer, do you one is right for your wedding!?
