Tropical and Rustic Wedding on Maui’s West Side

Olowalu Plantation House is a stunning property. Its oceanfront location makes this historical plantation-style house one of Maui’s top wedding venues. The house has a large, covered lanai that backs onto a stunning lawn surrounded by tropical trees and of course, the backdrop most destination couples are after, the ocean! With a property, this naturally beautiful not much decor is required. Diana and Bud chose to go for a rustic, tropical theme and play upon the venue’s beauty. This entire wedding day turned out to be an absolute dream for the couple and their group of family and friends all in the name of LOVE!

The couple said their I do’s with that desirable pacific ocean back drop that glowed through a wooden circle arch dressed with bright tropical florals from Stpehen Kusmit Designs. The ceremony was beautiful, overflowing with love and emotion as the couple read. Their first kiss was followed by a fun filled exit to Hakuna Mata as the guests showered them with bubbles (Hot tip – bubble guns are the way to go to create enough bubbles for amazing photos!) .

Reception

The set up was charming and romantic with soft cafe lights, rustic decor and tropical florals. It fit the Ocean front venue of the historical Olowalu Plantation House perfectly. Rustic wood, soft romantic lighting, candles, gold accents and of course bright tropical florals.

The reception took place on the oceanfront lawn. Cafe lights strung between the trees created a soft, romantic atmosphere. The vibe was completed with a VW van converted into photo booth (loving this trend!), distressed birchwood Bar and decorative vintage wine barrels. The wedding party entered with fun, neon colored glow batons, which obviously got the party started for the evening!

Cultural Traditions

We love when couples incorporate traditional elements into their wedding day. Although the couple did the traditional Chinese tea ceremony with their parents and family members the day before the wedding, it was still important to them the wear their traditional attire on the day. So, halfway through the reception, they snuck off to change and cut their cake in their traditional dress.

Sunset

One of the best parts about working at the Olowalu Plantation House is the waterfront access. This means epic sunset photos! The couple can wander down onto the lava rocks or the beach to capture some special moments at golden hour with just the two of them. Anna Kim did an incredible job of capturing Diana & Bud and their love as the sun dropped and showered them with light.  With ear-to-ear smiles and hearts filled with love Diana, Bud, and their guests were overjoyed with how the day turned out.
