Paliku Gardens – A Modern, Whimsical Wedding with a Tropical Twist

Laura and CJ are both from Oahu. This couple spent a lot of time at Kaneohe sandbar and Kaneohe Bay. From family gatherings to their engagement photos with Emily Turner Photography. Kaneohe Bay is a place they love. And, choosing Paliku as their wedding venue was an easy decision. It was because of their love for Kaneohe Bay that made Paliku a sentimental venue. Laura and CJ’s wedding was anything but ordinary. Their modern whimsical neo-tropical wedding was full of love, life, and radiated good vibes!

The Florals

Bright. Tropical. Florals. The power of flowers! We love it when couples are just as into florals as we are. Aside from the typical wedding decor such as candles, personalized signs, favors, and centerpieces, florals also create a vibe on their own. Their ceremony took place at the Water Tower and their cocktail hour and reception were on the main lawn. Creative Concepts by Jeff beautifully created a dreamy ground-based semi-circle neo-tropical floral installation. The pops of orange, red, and pink amongst the dark forest tropical greenery, perfectly framed Laura and CJ as they said I do in front of their family and friends.

Not only was this ceremony’s floral installation one of our favorite details, it was also a huge element in their reception space. Jeff and his team transferred the tropical florals from the Water Tower and placed it as a stunning garden backdrop for the couple’s dance floor on the main lawn. It was an amazing transformation! And, that was not the only floral detail that we loved. Jeff and his team then created a romantic whimsical hanging floral banner for Laura and CJ’s sweetheart table. It was the perfect neo-tropical backdrop for this sweet couple during dinner!

Two Cakes

Why have one cake, when you can have two? For Laura and CJ, they had two different types of cakes. They had a one-tier traiditonal wedding cake with neo-tropical florals and… wait for it…. a sushi cake!! The sushi cake was three tiers!  Covered in ahi, salmon, hamachi, and sashimi shaped into flowers, the cake was finished with a customized “Mr. & Mrs. Yoneshige” cake topper. This sushi cake was so uniquer and perfect for this local couple.

A Family Celebration

Something we love about local weddings is that they become a family effort. Everyone contributed something! Laura’s dad made the chili pepper water favors, her dad and uncle made the pupus for cocktail hour, her uncle helped manage the pupu table, CJ’s uncle was their officiant, his friend made their sushi cake, and an auntie and cousin helped manage the welcome table. The love for Laura and CJ abundantly overflowed that day.
