Best Beaches to Elope on Oahu

North, South, East, and West

The popularity of elopements is rising! In the last year or two, we have seen a downward trend in guest count numbers and couples opting for smaller more intimate celebrations, sometimes even with just the two of them. If you are planning on eloping in Hawaii then your vision likely includes a beach. This article covers the best beaches for elopements on Oahu. As we all know there are SO many beautiful beaches to choose from so we will cover our top pick from each side of the island: North, South, East, and West!

1. North Shore: Kawela Bay

Our go-to North Shore location! With much fewer public beachgoers and surfers like the famous Sunset beach just down the road, Kawela Bay offers that element of seclusion most elopers are looking for! From that white sandy beach to crystal clear tide pools and into the banyan tree forest this spot has such a wide variety of photo locations for every type of couple. And did someone say sunset? This location has the best golden hour light that makes for those epic sunset pictures! (Especially in the summer months!)

2. East Side: Sherwood Forest Beach – Waimanalo

Sherwood forest and beach is one of the most frequented beach elopement locations on Oahu! And for good reason! It offers the most incredible views of Oahu’s picturesque east side. This spot is the perfect mixture of flawless sandy beach, turquoise-blue ocean, and unique forest of Hawaiian pines. With this variety the photo ops are endless. We love that the number of public beachgoers here is pretty minimal, especially on the weekdays, in the morning allowing for a more private, intimate feel for your special ceremony!

3. South Side: Waialae Beach Park

This beach is great for couples staying in Waikiki who don’t want to travel TOO far but still get away from the hustle and bustle of busy downtown Waikiki and it’s beaches! Waialae Beach Park offers breathtaking views of Koko Head Crater in the distance, this beach location offers both grassy areas with a field of palms that sway in the wind as well as a sparkling sandy beach for your ceremony location. This is your spot for a morning ceremony as it has the best beautiful morning light (and if you dare it is ideal for a sunrise ceremony!!)

4. West Side: Makua Beach

Anyone who has been to Makua Beach could tell you it holds a certain kind of magic! From the pods of dolphins that pass by in the mornings, to the pristine waters, to the epic mountains in the valley behind bay that often showcase a Hawaiian rainbow it is like something out of a postcard! Who wouldn’t want to elope in a location like this! Not too many tourists venture this far from Waikiki or the nearby resort area of Ko Olina, so it provides a more secluded, local vibe. If awesome sunset photos are one of your priorities then this is the spot for you!
