Trisha and Julian’s DIY wedding was one for the books! It’s not everyday that the groom is just as active as the bride in the planning process. The wedding took place on March 8th, 2014 at the Kamehameha Chapel and Aquarium. It was a delight to see Trisha and Julian interact with one another and come to all the decisions as a couple. One thing that was determined without any hesitation was to rent a tent for their reception.

It just so happens that a week before the big day, weather reports indicated heavy rain! Trisha and Julian didn’t want to take any chances or make any last minute adjustments so they agreed on getting a tent. Better safe than sorry! Since we planned this out ahead of time, we were able to decorate the tent with cafe lights inside to set a more romantic mood. Even though it drizzled during the ceremony, it didn’t affect our guests since it took place inside the church. But right as the reception begins, all the rain stops and the skies open up completely! It’s funny how things work out sometimes.

It was voiced by both the bride and groom that we work on a budget. After careful analysis, we sat down together and looked at what costs were unnecessary, negotiated prices, and what services they could do without. Since this was a DIY wedding, a lot of things were made instead of using different vendors. They brought their own table linens, however, they expressed after the fact that it is indeed easier to rent on this one. They made their own centerpieces, game cards, and goodie bags for all the kids. Their table theme was Disney! I would say that Trisha and Julian’s wedding was a success in doing so and is a great example for those who want to save money.

The day started and ended perfectly for Trisha and Julian. Friends and family were enjoying themselves, having a blast, and appreciating the open bar that was generously offered by the bride and groom. The best man, also the emcee, was charming and hilarious. There were even fireworks at the end of Waikiki in the background of their reception! Although they were unexpected, it really enhanced the love, emotion, and celebration that was shared at their reception. Julian gave the most sincere and heartfelt thank you speech towards the end of the reception that left me teary-eyed.
