This week we are featuring not just one wedding but our experience from several weddings as to what to expect for an outdoor wedding in Hawaii. All the islands are beautiful with scenic backdrops just about everywhere you go. You can always expect a beautiful day whether it’s sunny and turquoise waters or rainy with beautiful waterfalls and greenery.

The truth is, Hawaii is paradise but LIFE still happens in paradise. We recently had a wedding at a beautiful estate on the North shore of Oahu.  While the couple was out taking pictures prior to the ceremony the bride was bitten by a swarm of mosquitos within a few minutes. We brought ice and anti-itch cream to the bride to help calm down any bumps. The bridesmaids were so helpful in applying foundation to her back to create a flawless look again.

A second example is from a wedding just a few weeks back. The groom and groomsmen were outside taking pictures on a beautiful sunny day. Out of nowhere, a mosquito landed on the groom’s cheek and bit him. This resulted in a small red bump right below his eye. We immediately got him some of the bridesmaids’ foundation and ice to minimize the swelling. Within 45 minutes the bump went down and we were ready to start the ceremony!

No matter where you are in Hawaii and most other places in the world there are certain areas that attract mosquitos. There are seasons with more mosquitos than usual but living in a tropical climate year round you have to be prepared for anything.

Outdoor weddings are so rewarding and it gives your guests the true feeling of Hawaii. We always carry bug spray in our emergency kit and we encourage having the wedding party stock up as well. It is a great idea to include bug spray or bug repellant wipes at your check in table if you are having an outdoor wedding. That way the guests can be worry free and have a great time all night long.
